Bridge Construction Project over Hondlon River in Baotou City
The bridge construction over Hondlon River in Baotou City, Beijing, China, consists of a main urban trunk road and a 375-meter long bridge with a total of 13 spans. MCC Capital Engineering & Research Incorporation Limited (MCC) is the general contractor on this municipal EPC project, responsible for managing multiple engineering disciplines throughout the design and construction phases of the bridge, road, and water supply and drainage system. Preserving the environmental integrity around the construction site was a top priority.
MCC implemented a 3D BIM approach for the first time on a municipal EPC project using Bentley’s technology to improve design quality, avoid collisions among disciplines, and improve construction management. The team used Bentley applications to achieve the design of the prefabricated, prestressed concrete, continuous box beam bridge structure and roadway; for drainage and pipeline design; and to share design results. Using Bentley technology shortened the design cycle by two months.
